The Hills Retreat staff is comprised of a group of volunteer college students dedicated to advancing God’s kingdom by proclaiming the Gospel, cultivating relationships, and connecting students to ministries & local churches in Clemson. We seek students who are experiencing godly community at Clemson University and desire to encourage and guide incoming freshman and transfer students to get plugged in before they step foot on campus.

Roles at the HILLs

This team is responsible for preparing, leading, and executing The Hills Retreat.
Roles include-
Co-Directors:
Lead the executive team, cast vision for the ministry, and maintain alignment of the mission throughout staff.
Registration Exec:
This person will be in charge of managing all registration issues and communicating with incoming freshmen after they register.
Hospitality Exec:
The Head of Hospitality’s job is to set the stage for every moment and setting of the retreat.
Logistics Exec:
This role manages all those moving parts to make sure it goes smoothly.
PR Exec:
Responsible for all external communication.
Counselor Exec:
Responsible for training and equipping of counselors. (1 male, 1 female)
Ministry Exec:
Builds and maintains relationships with ministries outside of the church board. Plans and executes ministry fair. (1 male, 1 female)
Prayer Exec:
Responsible for keeping prayer at the forefront of the retreat as well as caring for our prayer team.
Program Exec:
Leads our program team.
Media Exec:
Assists our communications executive in running all social media for the Hills Retreat.
Finance Exec:
Wisely stewards and directs The Hills finances.

The Head Counselor position is a relational role that seeks to assist Exec in training and equipping a small number of counselors as they navigate through leading a small group at the retreat.
Head Counselors will lead a tribe for BOTH sessions. This provides further opportunity for leaders in this role to inspire and invest in the counselors and freshmen in their tribe during BOTH sessions. (10 guys, 10 girls)

Assists their respective executive in various tasks.
Worship Chair:
Responsible for taking care of all tasks regarding worship. The Worship Chair is to help work with the band leading up to and during the retreat. The Worship Chair reports to the Ministry Executives.
Testimony Chair:
Work with Ministry Executives to help find the testimonies to be shared at the Hills Retreat. They are responsible for training and equipping the people sharing their testimonies before and leading up to the retreat.
Ministry Chair:
The Ministry Communications Chair helps foster unity among churches and ministries by developing a diverse, Christ-centered environment for the retreat. This role focuses on building connections, coordinating communication, and organizing the Ministry Fair, while assisting in selecting staff from various church and ministry backgrounds to create a welcoming and unified team.
Outreach Chair:
The Outreach Chair is responsible for engaging and connecting with Hills attendees, especially those from outside South Carolina, helping all feel welcomed and informed throughout registration and the process leading up to the retreat. This role involves working closely with the Head of Registration and Communications to coordinate communication with students, reaching out to out-of-state organizations to spread information regarding The Hills, and ensuring that out-of-state participants have all the necessary information related to the retreat.
Special Care Chair:
The Special Care Chair is responsible for working with the Head of Hospitality to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all retreat participants, with a special focus on students with special needs and disabilities. This role ensures that these students are fully supported, engaged, and cared for throughout the retreat experience. The chair will work closely with the Head of Hospitality to oversee accessibility logistics, train staff in best practices for inclusion, and facilitate meaningful interactions between students with special needs and the rest of the retreat community.
Program Chairs:
Supports the Program Exec in providing the program team with logistics, support, prayer, and encouragement. Each of the chairs will be integral parts in the planning of the retreat, specifically the roles of the program team. During the retreat, each program chair will support more specific teams within the program team to make the tea, as effective as possible.
Social Media Chair:
In charge of working with the Media & Communications Executives to create and implement a social media vision for Instagram and Facebook. This includes working with the video chair to curate content to advertise the retreat throughout the year and during the retreat in particular. Familiarity with social media platforms is preferred, as well as basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Photo Chair:
The Photo Chair is responsible for documenting anything and everything Hills-related through photography throughout the year, including the Head Counselor Retreat, Staff Retreat, and the main retreat in August. This role involves collaborating with the media exec and media team to brainstorm and create photo content that will effectively promote events leading up to the Hills, as well as capturing key moments during the August retreat. Basic familiarity with or willingness to learn Adobe Creative Cloud will be helpful for editing and organizing photos.
Video Chairs:
One short form and one long form, In charge of documenting anything and everything Hills related with videos throughout the year, and at the Tribal Council Retreat, Staff Retreat, and the main retreat in August. This role will include working with the Media Exec and Media Team to brainstorm and create videos that will effectively advertise leading up to the Hills, in addition to capturing the retreat in August. Basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud will be helpful for the editing and presentation of videos.
Merchandise Chair:
In charge of working with Media and Communications Executives to design and produce merchandise for The Hills Retreat.
Fundraising/Food Chairs:
A team of about three people who will work closely with the Finance Executive to fundraise strategically and prayerfully for The Hills. The Chairs will mainly focus on fundraising ideas and events, but during the retreat will assist the Finance Exec in planning and serving all meals at retreats. In addition, they will be assisting the Finance Exec in any way need throughout the year!
Prayer Chairs:
Prayer Chairs (1 Male, 1 Female) are responsible for helping cultivate an environment of prayer within all aspects of The Hills while supporting the Prayer Exec in training and spiritually supporting the staff through the school year and at the retreat.

Responsible for running the games, setting up and tearing down chairs and tables for meals and sessions, and maintaining a hype atmosphere throughout the entirety of the retreat!

People dedicated solely to pray leading up to the retreat and throughout the retreat in order to maintain an atmosphere of prayer.

Works closely with the Media Exec and Video/Social Media Chair. Will be responsible for taking and editing pictures and videos leading up to and throughout the retreat

Largest portion of the staff, responsible for leading a small group of freshman campers to foster community, discuss messages from the sessions, and push them to grow in their faith.
